Since then, the Edgar Wood Society has been researching and co-writing the film with Anthony Dolan of the film group. The filming will commence next month, based at the Edgar Wood Centre on Long Street, Middleton.

Restoration of Edgar Wood’s Guardian Buildings – A Review
An early Edgar Wood designed commercial building has been restored by the Edgar Wood and Middleton Townscape Heritage Initiative (THI) conservation scheme. The building was in a terribly mutilated state and its appearance is now a hundred times better than it was. The THI, which is superbly managed by Sue Oakley Rochdale MBC conservation officer, is warmly congratulated for its achievement. Bringing historic buildings forward for restoration is a slow and complicated procedure and one that doesn’t always bear fruit. The Edgar Wood Society at the Victoria Baths
The EWS were on hand in the men’s second class pool (now with floor) at the Heritage and History fair at the Victoria Baths, Hathersage Road. It was a good opportunity to engage with members of the public about EW and to meet other groups promoting their interests. After being closed for 24 years, if you would like a swim in the first class pool on Sunday 14 May then get your ticket by lunch on 14 April. Information is on the Victoria Baths web site.

Liberty in Italy
Liberty in Italy is an interesting Italian exhibition on the so-called minor artists of art nouveau. In their day, these were prominent practitioners and part of the cultural world that Edgar Wood experienced during his regular trips to Italy and his eventual retirement there. The exhibition has been so popular that the initial closing date of 14th February was extended till 1st April.
The exhibition website has a selection of images…

One site has become two
The Arts & Crafts Church & Middleton Heritage site became too large and people have been struggling to get around it, so we have now divided it into two. Middleton Heritage is now at middletonheritage.co.uk while the Arts & Crafts Church and Edgar Wood continue here.
Now, we hope each site can develop and grow more freely and everyone will find navigation a little easier.
We hope this works for you too. Whether ‘yes’ or ‘no’, your feedback is always welcome…
A Musical Treat
A good audience gave a standing ovation at the conclusion of today’s performance by the Mendelssohn on Mull Festival Ensemble. The 8 young profession musicians, introduced by Richard Jeffcoat (curator) played items by, Hayden, Shostakovich and of course Mendelssohn’s octet.
This was a cultural treat and we would like to think that this could be the start of a lasting partnership.
Their next performance is in St. Mary’s Cathedral, Edinburgh on Friday 21st April, why not pay a visit?
