Last night’s event of the official opening of the restoration was excellent. There were approximately 150 guests in attendance, with many travelling several hours to attend. The evening started with welcome by the Chair of the Greater Manchester Building Preservation Trust, followed by presentations from the Chair of the THI Board Malcolm Allen, Lisa McFarlane (architect) and Warren Marshall (GMBPT Trustee). Mr. Billy Sheerin ( Depuy Mayor) thanked all the agencies involved on behalf of RMBC.
The official party and guests then moved into the restored hall where the Lord Lieutenant, Warren Smith unveiled a commemorative plaque. Christine thanked Viridor Credits for their match funding and for the huge support GMBPT have received from Heritage Trust North West. She also thanked the groups and individuals who sponsored windows. Over £20,000 has been raised so far, with more donations promised on the night. Also thanked were Elaine, Maureen, Carol and Dave who helped to prepare for the evening. After all the speeches ended glasses of wine were drunk and as everyone chatted musicians Shirley and Peter entertained on keyboard and alto saxaphone. Many thanks to everyone for making it a memorable evening. If you took photographs , please will you send a copy to the Edgar Wood Society email address.
