Restoration Update

The first Site Progress Meeting took place on Tuesday 19th Dec. In attendance were Seven architect Lisa McFarlane, Stone Edge contractors, Conservation Officer Sue Oakley and GMBPT trustee Christine Grime.

One of the main concerns was the hold up of internal work, because unforeseen asbestos had been located. External works are having to be brought forward to make up for this delay, but is weather dependent. Lime mortar needs a temperature of 5 degrees and this can not be guaranteed in January.  More scaffold is being erected and work to the masonry is going on.

Another surprise was found, this being on the rear elevation of the lecture room gable coping stones. The removal of the protective foil put on in the 1970’s? revealed a brick capping not stone and unfortunately the brick was is a poor condition.

Work will come to an end tomorrow for the Christmas period so look out for further updates in early January 2018. A Happy Christmas and a Prosperous New Year to you all.
