Edgar Wood and Middleton Townscape Heritage Initiative presents:

Join us for an evening of music which will feature traditional and contemporary folk music, performed by the renowned local musicians Mark Dowding, Geoff Higginbottom and Jennifer Reid. The evening will include playing, singing and reviving a sparkling array of folk songs that have their roots in Industrial Lancashire.

Mark Dowding – A stalwart of the Lancashire folk scene for many years, Mark is a fine singer and multi-instrumenalist. His repertoire includes many songs that have their roots in the Industrial Revolution which transformed parts of Lancashire and the other northern counties from agriculture to industrial landscapes.

Geoff Higginbottom – Has been one of the mainstays of the North West folk scene for a number of years. Geoff’s polished performances see him playing a mixture of traditional and contemporary songs from Lancashire dialect poetry to his own compositions concerned with the Peterloo Massacre, with which Sam Bamford, Middleton’s own poet and radical is strongly connected.

Jennifer Reid – is a broadside ballad performer and local historian. Hailing from Middleton, her interests lie in Lancashire folk music researching and singing broadside ballads from the 19th century. Jennifer is a volunteer at the Working Class Movement Library and Chetham’s Library where she unearths long forgotten local ballads about life and politics.

Free entry, no ticket required.
